Usage Tracking

Learn how to track and update your SaaS usage in LimitLog.

Tracking your usage is at the heart of LimitLog. Here's everything you need to know about keeping your usage data up to date.

Updating Usage

Quick Increment Buttons

The fastest way to update usage is with the quick add buttons on each app card:

Click to increment usage:
  • +1 — Add 1 unit (perfect for individual prompts or requests)
  • +5 — Add 5 units at once
  • +10 — Add 10 units for heavy usage sessions

Just click the button and your usage updates instantly.

Direct Edit

For larger updates or exact values, click directly on the usage number:

  1. Click on the current usage display (e.g., "234 / 500")
  2. Type the new value
  3. Press Enter or click away to save

This is ideal when you want to sync with your actual usage from the service's dashboard.

From the Edit Modal

For complete control over all app settings:

  1. Click the ... menu on any app card
  2. Select Edit
  3. Update the "Current Usage" field
  4. Adjust any other settings as needed
  5. Click Save Changes

Understanding the Progress Bar

Each app card shows a visual progress bar indicating your usage. The color changes based on how close you are to your limit:

45% — Safe
78% — Caution
94% — Warning
  • Green (0-70%) — Safe zone, plenty of headroom
  • Yellow (70-90%) — Caution zone, be mindful of usage
  • Red (90%+) — Warning zone, approaching or at limit

The percentage is calculated as: (Current Usage / Limit) × 100

Manual vs. Automatic Tracking

Current Approach: Manual Tracking

LimitLog uses manual tracking, which means you update your usage yourself. This approach:

  • Works with any service — No API integration needed
  • Gives you control — You decide when to update
  • Protects privacy — No access to your accounts required
  • Is always accurate — You enter the real numbers

Tips for Staying Current

  1. Update regularly — Check your services weekly
  2. Use the +1 button — Quick updates as you use tools
  3. Sync monthly — Do a full sync at the start of each billing cycle
  4. Set reminders — Use LimitLog's tasks feature to remind yourself

Resetting Usage

When your billing cycle resets, your usage should too.

Automatic Reset

If you've set a reset date, LimitLog automatically resets your usage to 0 when that date passes. The reset date then advances to the next cycle.

Manual Reset

To reset manually:

  1. Click the ... menu on the app card
  2. Select Reset Usage
  3. Confirm the reset

This sets usage to 0 and advances your reset date.

Tracking Different Unit Types

LimitLog handles various usage units:

Count-Based

  • Credits, tokens, messages
  • API calls, requests
  • Downloads, exports

Just increment as you use them.

Time-Based

  • Minutes, hours
  • Compute time
  • Recording duration

Track in the same unit as your service reports.

Storage-Based

  • GB, TB
  • Files, records
  • Database rows

Update when your storage changes significantly.

Best Practices

Be Consistent

Pick a tracking rhythm that works for you:

  • Daily — For high-usage tools
  • Weekly — For moderate usage
  • Monthly — For low-usage subscriptions

Round Reasonably

You don't need exact numbers. If you've used "about 150" credits, entering 150 is fine.

Focus on High-Value Apps

Prioritize tracking apps where:

  • Overages are expensive
  • Limits are tight
  • Usage varies significantly
