Reset Dates & Billing Cycles

Learn how LimitLog tracks billing cycles and automatically resets your usage.

Most SaaS subscriptions reset your usage limits on a regular schedule. LimitLog helps you track these cycles and automatically resets your usage when the time comes.

Understanding Reset Dates

What is a Reset Date?

Your reset date is when your usage limit refreshes. For example:

  • Monthly subscription — Resets on the same day each month
  • Weekly limit — Resets every 7 days
  • Daily limit — Resets at midnight

Why It Matters

Knowing your reset date helps you:

  • Plan your usage throughout the cycle
  • Avoid running out too early
  • Know when you can use more freely

Setting Your Reset Date

When Adding an App

During app setup, you can set:

  1. Limit Period — Daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly
  2. Reset Date — The specific date your cycle resets

Editing an Existing App

To update reset dates:

  1. Click the ... menu on the app card
  2. Select Edit
  3. Update the Reset Date field
  4. Click Save Changes

Finding Your Reset Date

Not sure when your subscription resets? Check:

  • Your billing email from the service
  • The service's billing or subscription page
  • Your credit card statement date

Automatic Reset

LimitLog automatically handles usage resets:

How It Works

  1. You set your reset date (e.g., January 15)
  2. When January 15 arrives, LimitLog:

- Resets your usage to 0

- Advances the reset date to February 15

  1. You start fresh with your full limit

Timing

Resets happen when you load your dashboard after the reset date has passed. This ensures:

  • Accurate tracking
  • No premature resets
  • Smooth transitions

Billing Periods

Monthly Billing

The most common period. Your limit resets on the same day each month.

Example: If you subscribed on the 15th, your limit resets on the 15th of each month.

Yearly Billing

For annual subscriptions with monthly limits:

  • Set the limit period to "monthly"
  • Set the reset date to your monthly anniversary
  • The billing period can be set to "yearly" for cost tracking

Weekly Limits

Some services (like certain AI tools) have weekly limits:

  • Set the limit period to "weekly"
  • Set the reset date to your next reset day
  • LimitLog advances by 7 days each cycle

Daily Limits

For services with daily quotas:

  • Set the limit period to "daily"
  • Usage resets each day automatically

Manual Reset

Sometimes you need to reset manually:

When to Use

  • You upgraded mid-cycle and got fresh limits
  • The service gave you bonus credits
  • You need to sync with actual usage

How to Reset

  1. Click the ... menu on the app card
  2. Select Reset Usage
  3. Confirm the reset

This sets usage to 0 and advances your reset date.

Tracking Billing Costs

Separate from usage limits, LimitLog also tracks:

Subscription Cost

  • Monthly or yearly price
  • Currency (USD, EUR, etc.)

Next Billing Date

When your next payment is due. This is different from the reset date for yearly subscriptions with monthly limits.

Cost Summary

Your dashboard shows total monthly spend across all tracked apps.

Tips for Accurate Tracking

Match Your Billing Date

Set your reset date to match your actual billing date for the most accurate tracking.

Check After Upgrades

If you upgrade or change plans, update:

  • Your usage limit
  • Your reset date (if it changed)
  • Your subscription cost

Handle Mid-Cycle Changes

If you upgrade mid-cycle:

  1. Update your limit to the new amount
  2. Manually reset usage if you got fresh credits
  3. Update the reset date if needed
